THE FIREWORK SAFETY CODE: ON THE NIGHT REMEMBER...
1. To light fireworks at arms length with the portfires provided.
2. Never to smoke while handling fireworks.
3. Not to have more than three or four people lighting fireworks.
4. Not to fire rockets or other aerial fireworks over the heads of spectators.
5. Not to allow people to bring their own fireworks (including sparklers).
6. Not to touch a dud firework for at least half an hour and then hold it away from your face.
7. Never to use petrol or paraffin to light the bonfire.
8. Not to let children gather spent fireworks after the display.
9. Not to let any unauthorised people into the firing area before or after the display.
10. Make sure the bonfire is out completely and the site left in a safe condition.
Public Storage
As a member of the public, you do not hold a pyrotechnics storage license, so the following laws apply.
50kg NEC of HT4 fireworks can be stored for up to 21 days.
100kg NEC of HT3 fireworks can be stored for up to five days.
NEC means net explosive content and is the amount of actual explosives inside a firework, not to be confused with the firework’s overall weight including tubes and packaging.

ALWAYS FOLLOW THE FIREWORK CODE
* Always buy from a LICENCED retailer.
* Do not buy fireworks from UNLICENCED sellers on Facebook/Ebay/Gumtree/Amazon.
– These may not be safe.
* Only buy fireworks marked CE (BSEN 15947).
* Always keep fireworks in a closed box. Take them out one at a time and close the box.
* Never put fireworks in your pocket.
* Let your neighbours know you will be having a small display.
– You can use social media groups to get that message across.
* Avoid setting fireworks off late at night, particularly if it is a school-night.
* Do not set fireworks off in the street or other public places; it is against the law.
* Never throw fireworks; it is dangerous.
* Be considerate to your neighbours, especially if they have pets or small children.
* Keep pets indoors.
* Do not light fireworks under the influence of alcohol.
* Never fool around with fireworks.
* Light fireworks one at a time at arm’s length, at the end of the fuse, using a safety firework lighter or fuse wick.
* Light sparklers one at a time and wear gloves, even when lighting them.
* Never give sparklers to a child under the age of 5.
* Ideally you should never go back to a lit firework. However,
– Some of the new CE fireworks do come with a dual fuse option.
– Please read and follow these instructions VERY carefully.
* Never throw spent fireworks on a bonfire.
